A Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides direct patient support in hospitals, long-term care, clinical, and diagnostic environments. This role combines hands-on nursing assistance with advanced clinical skills in electrocardiography and phlebotomy.
Our PCT pathway integrates:
- Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) Training
- Electrocardiography (EKG) Technician Training
- Phlebotomy & Specimen Collection Training
Admissions Requirements:
To enroll in the full PCT track:
- High School Diploma, GED
- Valid government ID
- Completed CNA program (if entering bridge track)
Bridge-track applicants must provide proof of CNA completion within
2 years from a BPSS-approved school.

PHLEBOTOMY & SPECIMEN HANDLING (60 hours)
Topics include:
- Infection control & universal precautions
- Medical law & ethics in specimen handling
- Anatomy of the circulatory system
- Venipuncture & capillary puncture techniques
- Specimen processing & special collections
- Lab safety & quality control procedures
- Non-blood specimen collection
ELECTROCARDIOGRAPHY (EKG) TECHNICIAN (60 hours)
Topics include:
- Cardiac anatomy & physiology
- Patient preparation & lead placement
- 12-lead EKG recording & interpretation
- Rhythm analysis and arrhythmias
- Artifact identification & troubleshooting
- Holter & stress testing procedures

Certification & Outcomes
After completing the program, students may sit for:
- Nurse Aide Certification Exam (DOH/Prometric) (if CNA was not yet completed)
- Phlebotomy Technician Certification
